Hi All
Some of you may think I am crazy o r may even be past my “sell by date” to even consider attempting to cycle 300km in 3 Days starting in London and finishing in Paris, in July this year.
I feel I can achieve this with your kind encouragement and financial help. I am presently training very hard both on the roads and in the gym and I hope to raise lots of money for this most worthwhile charity.
If you would like to help me along, please click here.
Many thanks for your support
Best Regards
Jim Humphreys

Any business owner or manager can choose to buy a car or light commercial vehicle… but there’s a lot more to it than that, from a confusing range of financing options through to ever changing taxation implications.
Fleet Financial, based in Mallusk, might not be the only local company operating in the contract hire and vehicle management sector, but they’ve proven time and time again that they are up there with the very best in the UK as a whole, and not just Northern Ireland.
“We’ve been offering our business customers consistency, continuity and stability over the past 14 years,” says Fleet Financial Sales & Marketing Director, Philip Miley.
“We talk to our customers, we work closely with them, and we deliver what they need in terms of a business vehicle solution, whether they are a small company or a much larger one with complex requirements. Either way, we can offer the service and vehicles to suit their needs and their budgets.”
Fleet Financial has recently been included in the Fleet News Top 50 Contract Hire Companies for the whole of the UK for the second year running. The annual Top 50 Awards are organised by the leading specialist magazine for the vehicle management sector.
“Our levels of customer care are second to none, and they underpin everything we do here at Fleet Financial,” adds Philip Miley.
“Any organisation is only as good as its people, and we have an excellent team of professionals to look after our customers, from our account executives through to our fleet management team which looks after our customers’ vehicles throughout the life of each contract.
“Our overall aim is to be innovative and constantly improve the customer experience.”
Contract hire is now the most popular method of funding company vehicles for a variety of sound business reasons. It offers tax advantages, less risk, budget friendly monthly costs, and it’s VAT efficient as well.
“What we can also do,” adds Philip Miley, “is to provide advice on the whole life costs of vehicles, C02 emissions and tax implications to help our customers choose the right vehicle for their business.”

University of Ulster Elks basketball team has teamed up with Fleet Financial to drive the Superleague stars into the sporting fast lane.
The Elks are in their second season in topflight basketball playing in the All Ireland Semi Professional league along with nine other teams from across the island. This competition requires significant travel for the student team and Fleet Financial (NI) Ltd –Northern Ireland’s largest Contract Hire Car and Van leasing company – are providing a top-of-the-range Ford Galaxy MPV to assist with team transport to and from Superleague and College games.
Garrett Doran, University of Ulster Sports Union President, says: “This partnership with Fleet Financial means that the Elks can travel in comfort and style to all away games which take them as far as Tralee and Cork. We are keen to raise the profile of University sport regionally and nationally and this exciting partnership will facilitate this.”
Ulster Elks Head Coach, Deirdre Brennan, added: “The partnership will also benefit the local community as the vehicle will be used to transport our International Basketball Scholars to local schools to deliver coaching sessions, to spark interest in the Ulster Elks Superleague Programme and events and to motivate young people to be active and healthy.”
Jim Humphreys, Sales Manager at Fleet Financial (NI) Ltd, says: “We are delighted to be involved in this partnership with the University of Ulster Elks. We wholeheartedly endorse the University’s commitment to bringing sport to young people in the local community, and we are happy to be able to facilitate this. As we move towards the London 2012 Olympics, Fleet Financial sees this partnership as an excellent opportunity to promote health and well being around the Province.”
The Ulster Elks still have one remaining home game against current Superleague Champions Tralee Tigers on Saturday 21 February - tip off 7pm. It’s a family affair with face painting for children and a chance to shoot some hoops with team mascot Elkman before the game.
The Elks have had sell out crowds this season so if you are interested in attending the game contact: Andrew Steenson on: ap.steenson@ulster.ac.uk or 903668196 to book your tickets in advance.

On Saturday May 3, Ards Youth U12’s won their first trophy of a magnificent season when they won the Lisburn League Cup.
However, only seven days later, not resting on their laurels, they defeated Dungannon Youth in a thrilling final to be crowned Northern Ireland U12s Champions. A fantastic treble was now on, and with the full squad travelling the long distance to Cork to take on teams from England, Scotland and Republic of Ireland in Irelands biggest end of season tournament, they once again returned Champions defeating Leeds United 6-5 on penalties.
Fleet Financial sales Manager Jim Humphreys has presented a cheque to a major Northern Ireland Charity following his completion of a 100 k cycle event earlier this Summer. David Magill, Chairman of Glengormley Support Group and Valerie Saunders, Area Appeals Coordinator – both from NI Chest Heart and Stroke Association accepted a cheque for £1,000 at a special handover ceremony, which took place at Fleet Financial headquarters, Mallusk.
Jim Humphreys said:
“I started cycling a year ago in recovery from having open heart surgery and so I have first hand experience of the value of the work of this charity. I see this is my second opportunity of life – they got this far and so this is my way of giving something back! I am a competitive person yet this was the single most difficult task I have ever completed in my entire life! The rain and wind was in my face almost all the way but I am thrilled at the achievement and it was the massive support from family, friends, work colleagues and customers of Fleet Financial that kept me pedalling through the rain and drove me to complete the challenge.”
Mr Humphreys, together with two fellow members of session from Joymount Presbyterian Church, Carrickfergus, completed the 100k challenge. The gruelling coastal route started at Bangor Leisure Centre – all participants winding their way around the Ards Peninsula and to Portaferry before concluding back in Bangor! Training was rigorous with Jim regularly cycling up to 80 miles a week.
David Magill from Northern Ireland Chest, Heart and Stroke added:
“I think this is amazing and a real example of how individual effort really can make such a big difference. Jim is a great example to us all and I have no doubt that our charity, which relies on voluntary donations, will make good use of these funds. Each year in Northern Ireland almost 10,000 people die from Chest, Heart and Stroke illnesses. Scarcely a family in our community has not been affected. The Northern Ireland Chest, Heart and Stroke Association is committed to caring for today and finding a cure for tomorrow.”
Fleet Financial enjoyed a very successful NW200, so much so that VW UK decided to use some photographes from the event in a press campaign promoting their vans sporting elements.

Fleet Financial’s Belfast roadshow judged a major success.
In a first for Northern Ireland, the recent roadshow at the Waterfront Hall brought together key players to help local businesses fully understand issues such as Government legislation, CO2 emissions, greener vehicles and business taxation in relation to running and managing company vehicles.
Over 200 representatives from a broad spectrum of local companies were present, Philip Miley, Sales & Marketing Director at Fleet Financial opened the event and commented “With this series of roadshows, we are bringing together some of the leading experts in the fields of environmental motoring, finance and taxation to talk to businesses in an informal but informative way”. He then went on to introduce the principal speakers, Ian Crossan and Renee Dawson from leading accountancy firm, Grant Thornton.
Those attending received an informative and concise presentation covering many relevant issues regarding the finance and management of company vehicles. The speakers also high-lighted the advantages and benefits of contract hire with a particular focus on reducing costs. Following the main presentation, several leading motor manufacturers, including Toyota, BMW, Lexus, Volkswagen and Citroen gave a short synopsis on green issues and trends within their own organisations.
The successful event was rounded off with lunch and guests were able to network informally, speaking to representatives from a number of companies and organisations including PSNI and Lombard.
